Many students elect to compete in tournaments after starting chess as an elective. Throughout the years, several of our Upper School chess players have placed at the top in local tournaments. Our most improved player has gone up 5 classes in 3 years.
At the Queen City Classic, The Schilling School took 3rd place in the 7th - 9th grade division behind two regional all-star teams, making us the top single-school team.
Checkmate!
The Schilling School for Gifted Children offers chess as an elective during the Tuesday/Thursday schedule for all grades. Whether you are new to chess or an advanced tournament player, there is a class to fit your needs lead by our chess instructor Mr. Jon Applebee.
